Sinusitis and its Treatment
Pain in the forehead, cheeks, nose, or the area between the eyes is sometimes accompanied by fever, headache, toothache or even a decrease in the sensitivity of our sense of smell is one symptom of sinusitis. Sometimes because we feel the symptoms are not specific, we misinterpret these symptoms with other diseases, making disease that affects developing sinusitis without treatment
What is sinusitis?
Is an infection of the sinuses (cavities around the eyes, cheeks and nose), so that it contains pus (thick yellow or greenish mucus.
At first the mucus can be expelled through the nose or throat. If the disease persists because it is not given the treatment correctly will happen sinus mucosal swelling that closes the hole trajectory of the sinuses to the nose and throat. As a result more and more pus buried in the sinus cavity, causing distress and pain in the area.
There are several types of sinuses, namely:
- The frontal sinuses are located in the forehead
- Maxillary sinuses are located inside the cheekbones
- Sinus Etmoid located behind the bridge of his nose in the corner of the eye
- Sphenoid sinuses are located behind the sinus Etmoid
Infection or inflammation of the sinus infection generally occurs as a continuation of the nose. Each condition in the nose that blocks the flow of fluid out the nose tends to cause infection of the sinuses. As a viral infection, bacteria or foreign substances cause allergies can cause swelling of mucous membranes of the nose and the same thing also occurred in the sinus so close a relationship between the sinuses and nose.
Sinusitis itself can be divided into two types, namely:
• Acute sinusitis: symptoms experienced during the 2-8 weeks
• Chronic sinusitis: symptoms usually felt more than 8 weeks
Acute sinusitis can be caused by damage to the sinus cavity lining due to infection or surgery. While chronic sinusitis is usually caused by bacterial or viral infection.
Causes of sinusitis
#. Sinusitis is usually caused by viral or bacterial infections, and allergies prolonged. Inhaled allergens such as dust, mold spores, animal dander, pollens, and others cause allergic reactions and swelling that can affect the onset of an attack of sinusitis.
#. Upper respiratory tract infection, nasal allergy or other causes resulting in blockage of the opening track from the sinuses to the nose and throat result in mucous build up in the sinuses. Mucus is an excellent medium for the growth of bacteria or fungi that cause sinusitis.
A person suffering from osteo metal complexes are more susceptible to disease if he is suffering from allergic sinusitis. Because allergies make nasal mucus often. If the allergy attacks occur often enough, while he has a channel between the sinus cavity with a narrow nose, then the risk of entry of mucus in the sinus cavity is very large.
What are the main symptoms of sinusitis?
• Nasal congestion and watery with mucus discharge thick yellow or greenish sky sky through the nose or throat.
• Pain and distress in the affected sinus area. The pain is triggered when the area was tapped with a finger (painful beat) or when the head shook with great force.
• Sinusitis maxillaris will cause pain in the cheeks and upper teeth,
• Pain in the lower forehead and eyebrows is a frontal sinusitis.
• Pain behind the eyes, on top of his head, the temples due to sphenoid sinusitis.
• Pain behind the eye by ethmoid sinusitis.
Sinusitis Treatment
Treatment is usually done for sinusitis include:
• anti-allergy injections
• Avoidance of allergic triggers
• nasal sprays containing corticosteroids to help reduce swelling in the sinus cavity, mainly due to polyps or because of allergies
Acute sinusitis should be given treatment for 10-14 days, while chronic sinusitis should be treated for 3-4 weeks. For some sufferers of chronic sinusitis may be required medication to treat fungal infections. Surgery to clean & dry the sinus cavity may be needed especially for patients who experience recurrent inflammation.
Sinusitis disease recurrence should be addressed because it is easy, especially for those who suffer from allergies. And if it is a relapse, the disease can interfere with the activity. Disorders of the most obvious is the headache that never healed. If the disease is not addressed, then it was likely to spread to nearby organs that can cause meningitis (if mucus flow to the brain), sinobronchitis if mucus flow to the lungs), and gastroenteritis (if mucus flow to the stomach).
